👉 👉 👉 A group of private companies have published 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗗 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 encouraging state governments to implement policies involved in creating a digital ID system.
Some of the more recognizable ones are listed in the image below.
The blueprint was published by the 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a group of 27 US companies, including Mastercard, Equifax, AT&T, and more.
The group either wants to stop the worry about ID fraud or to profit from preventing ID fraud by 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗗𝘀.
However, experts are warning that, "we are not simply establishing an identity to access basic social services. Digital IDs will become necessary to function in a connected digital world.
This has not escaped the attention of 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.
Already, they are working to splinter the internet, collect and localize data, and 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.
Digital ID systems, as they are being developed today, are ripe for exploitation and abuse, 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺𝘀 and democracies. "
