TRUE VALUES
There’s an eggshell in the hallway,
A melon skin on the stair,
A cake tin in the garden . . .
I ask, “Lord, why are they there?”
The cutlery’s all gone missing,
My scissors have never been found,
One day when we’re doing the gardening
We’ll find them lying round.
A roller skate lies near the doorway,
“Put your toys away,” Dad said,
But when he goes out in a hurry
He’ll go for a spin on his head.
A pair of bright eyes look at me,
Dad’s undies he wears on his head,
“Lord, wouldn’t it be wonderful,
If they were in the drawer instead?”
But I remember a friend with no children
Which causes her great despair!
“Oh, Lord, I am so sorry,
Thank You these things are there.”
