IT COMES BACK TO US, MOTHERS
Yesterday I talked about how it is necessary for young people aspiring to rise into Charlie Kirk’s shoes to realize that they must first be prepared. It is so great to be filled with fervor. Great things don’t happen without passion! But they must also be filled with God’s truth to have the “tongue of the learned.” The word in the Hebrew is “limmud” and means “taught, trained, skilled.” It means to be a disciple or a student.
Dear mothers, this word hits back at us too. It’s the same word used in Isaiah 54:13: “And all thy children shall be TAUGHT (limmud) of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”
That means that God wants all our children to be trained and skilled in God’s word. He wants them to be so accustomed to it that it is part of their thinking and their life. It comes out of their mouths (Isaiah 59:21). Dear mother, can I ask this question: is this the testimony of your children?
In my communication with many people today, I find that most of them are not accustomed to God’s word. I’m not talking about secular young people, but homeschooled young people. They are not familiar with God’s word. They don’t really know it. They don’t even know basic Scriptures let alone the biblical understanding on the basic things of life.
It is a very grieving statistic from George Barna that only four percent of Christians have a true biblical worldview! Dearest mothers, this comes back to us. We are the ones who are responsible to teach our children, not just a Sunday School idea of God but to be trained and skilled in God’s word and a biblical worldview. Your mothering is not just caring physically for your children, but it is a fulltime job penetrating God’s laws into their minds and hearts. You can’t afford to be doing it part-time.
I read this morning that God wants us to teach our children when “sitting in your home.” (Deuteronomy 11:19). That’s teaching from godly parents, the opposite to “sitting in the seat of the scornful” in a public school where they are influenced with humanism and socialism (Psalm 1:1).
This can happen throughout the day, but if we truly understand our mandate from God we will make sure we gather our children for prayer and the reading of God’s word morning and evening. If we are not making this happen, we are too busy with things that are not eternal and will not bring forth fruit for the kingdom of God in this world.
May you be blessed and inspired, Nancy Campbell
