“My recent election is a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal and all of these many betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and, indeed, their freedom. From this moment on, America’s decline is over.”--President Donald Trump
Trump on Monday signed dozens of executive orders to fulfill his campaign promises. He revoked 78 executive actions of his predecessor, the corrupt biden, reinstated some of his own actions which lyin' biden had revoked, and unleashed a flurry of directives on the border, the federal workforce, energy, and trade. Here are 12 highlights from the 1st day’s actions.
-January 6 Pardons: The president issued a full and unconditional pardon to more than 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants. The pardons covered all but 15 of the people convicted for the events near the Capitol in 2021. The group of 15 received commutations.
-Border: Trump declared a national emergency in connection to illegal border crossings, reinstated his remain-in-Mexico policy, and ended the refugee program at the core of the so-called practice of catch-and release.
-Immigration: Trump moved to end birthright citizenship, which grants citizenship to children born in the US. The practice is rooted in an interpretation of the 1st sentence of the 14th amendment, suggesting that the order will all-but-certainly be challenged in court.
-Cartels: The president designated drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and invoked the 1798 Foreign Enemies Act to pave the way for the removal of cartel members from the US.
-Federal workforce: Trump placed a freeze on federal rulemaking and hiring, ordered government employees to report to their jobs in person, and restored a category of the federal workforce which makes them easier to fire.
-Tariffs and trade: The president directed his administration to investigate the trade practices of Canada, Mexico, and China, with a focus on trade deficits, currency manipulation, and the flow of illegal migrants into the US.
-China: Trump directed the government to review China’s compliance with trade deals, paving the way for the tariffs he threatened.-TikTok: He ordered a 75-day extension until the CCP-tied app would be forced to be sold or banned.
-Energy: He declared a national emergency on energy, loosened restrictions on drilling in Alaska, initiated the reversal of biden’s ban on offshore drilling, and ordered the repeal of the so-called electric vehicle mandate.
- Security Clearances: He revoked the security clearances of the 49 former intelligence officials who signed a letter purporting that the laptop abandoned by hunter had all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation operation.
-Paris Climate Accord: The president again withdrew the US from the climate commitments with the UN. Trump likewise again withdrew from the WHO, due to its close ties with the Chinese Communist Party.
-DEI: One of the executive orders unwinds a directive biden issued on his first day in office that instructed the government agencies to systematically integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (dei) ideology into their operations.
