A radical onslaught has subordinated our education system to the diversity, equity, and inclusion (dei) ideology, and its enforcing bureaucracies. The dei educational project is yet another ideology justifying neo-liberalism's take-over of the state and parastate bureaucracies. But dei sharply departs from our proper liberal and civic ideals of the student. To learn is above all a training in humility, the recognition that one has much to learn.
But dei activists don't do humble because they aren't people who recognize that they themselves can be improved by proper learning. Unfortunately, an education and freedom without humility makes one a master in training and nothing more. School should not function as a temple, and a teacher should not think of himself as a messiah. True teachers should be Isocrates and Cicero, who taught us how to study to build and preserve the City of Man. And, yes, to seek the City of God too.
