Many people living in the state where Garcia was illegally residing for several years said they feel “safer” now that he’s back in El Salvador and supported the Trump administration’s decision. Multiple deportation courts and law enforcement investigations found Garcia was a member of the notorious MS-13 gang, and his own wife filed a restraining order against him in 2021 for alleged violent abuse.
