Today is Washington's Birthday. Today's holiday is commonly called "Presidents' Day" which is the state official name in several states. Washington's Birthday is still the official United States government name for the holiday. We use this day to honor the great contributions of George Washington, the principal human founder of the United States of America.

Some disparage George Washington because he owned slaves. But, he could not legally free them until his death which he did in his will. George Washington should be judged only by standards that were available during his lifetime. Some want to remove George Washington's name from public facilities, a position that I do not support.

Some people eat cherry pie on Washington's Birthday to remember the unproven legend that Washington chopped down a cherry tree and told the truth about it.
