Resting In The Lord
Part 2 Exhortation to Rest - Hebrews 4:11-13

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

God’s Exhortation to rest vs 11
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.

The word translated labor here means to be diligent, to strive. “The word diligence indicates universal earnestness in accomplishing, promoting or striving after anything” – Thayer.

It does not mean that we work in our own power for that would be the antithesis of rest. The exhortation is for us to be ever diligent, ever watchful, ever on guard against unbelief, ignorance, or apathy in relationship to God’s promises.

Paul now goes on to tell us how we can be diligent in our entering into that rest. How we can know where we stand and how to overcome our unbelief.

God's Revealation Of Us 12-13

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

The way we measure our faith, our unbelief, our walk with God, our own heart is through God’s Word, the living two-edged sword. It pierces to the dividing point of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, examines us our life from the inside out. It is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart.  It lets us see ourselves through the eyes of God.

God's word, the living two-edged sword, is the means by which we can measure our unbelief, our faith, our relationship with God and see if we are truly resting in Him.
