On November 3, 2024 at 2:O0 AM local daylight time most of the United States, Canada, and all of Cuba will be setting their clocks back an hour and go back to Standard Time. Baja California Norte, Mexico and areas of Mexico bordering New Mexico and Texas will also turn their clocks back one hour. Arizona outside of Navajo Nation and Hawaii do not turn their clocks back. In Canada, Yukon and most of Saskatchewan do not turn their clocks back. There are also a few other isolated parts of Canada that do not change clocks. This preserves daylight in the morning at the expense of an hour of afternoon daylight.

There have been many attempts to end the clock changes, but they have not taken effect yet. Many state efforts are conditional on neighboring states joining them. Federal law allows states to go to year round Standard Time, but not year round Daylight Time. The Sunshine Protection Act which would put most of America on year round daylight saving time has 54 co-sponsors in Congress. There has not been a bill introduced in Congress to put all of America on year round standard time.

On Sunday, October 27 at 01:O0 UTC most of Europe moves their clocks one hour back for Winter Time. Winter Time will be observed until the last Sunday in March. Belarus, Russia, Turkey, and Russian occupied parts of Ukraine do not change clocks. There has been no recent actions by the European Union to attempt to end the clock changing.

On Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 2:O0 AM local time; South Australia, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, and Tasmania will move their clocks forward an hour for daylight saving time. The mean solar noon to the nearest minute in Sydney, Australia is 11:55 Australia Eastern Standard Time and 12:55 Australia Eastern Daylight Time.

On Sunday, September 29 at 2:O0 AM New Zealand Standard Time (Saturday September 28 14:O0 UTC) New Zealand sets their clocks forward one hour for daylight saving time. They are to be on daylight saving tIme until April 6, 2025. This also applies to McMurdo, Antarctica and the Amundsen-Scott Station at the south pole. The Chatham Islands which observes a time 45 minutes ahead of New Zealand, will go to daylight saving time at the same moment as the main part of New Zealand does.

I have gone back to putting all my working clocks on Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) except my shortwave radio clock. I intend to have them on PDT until November 2 for those who don't change to Pacific Standard Time automatically and November 3 02:O0 PDT for those who switch automatically. I am now using PDT (whatever the government sanctioned time for Washington state is) in my communications with citizens of other countries. The key catalyst for this change is we now have a participant in our Indonesian Zoom group who is a resident of the Netherlands. The Netherlands along with most of Europe observes daylight saving time which they call "Summer Time" from 01:O0 UTC the last Sunday in March to 01:O0 UTC the last Sunday in October. Our Zoom meeting starts at 11:O0 PM Central European Summer Time (CEST) and 10:O0 PM Central European Time (CET). That evangelist resides in Wierden, The Netherlands. Wierden is currently running CEST which is 94 minutes ahead of Wierden's local mean time. Longview, Washington and Olympia, Washington's PDT is 72 minutes ahead of local mean time in both Longview and Olympia. I still advocate going to year round Standard (Winter) time. That would sync better with most of the population of the world which does not participate in changing clocks.
