Integration Minister Mats Persson (Liberal Party) said on Thursday that an “expert group” was being assembled to obtain “an overview of Islamist infiltration in Sweden.” He added that like France, Sweden faces challenges “regarding integration and countering parallel societal structures that challenge liberal democracy.”

Swedish scholar Magnus Ranstorp praised this as “a very important initiative,” adding that those who have tried “for decades” to highlight the risks of rising Islamism have often done so “against the odds.”

MEP Charlie Weimers says Brussels must examine the ways it funds Islamism and bring the practice to a halt.

On Friday the NY Times published a report highlighting the Trump administration’s increasing use of software from data analysis firm Palantir, which has been deployed across at least four federal agencies for the stated purpose of increasing operational efficiency through data modernization. For now, each deployment of Palantir software is focused on department-specific services, but the fact that they’re now embedded across multiple agencies – combined with Trump’s March executive order calling for the federal government to share data across agencies – has raised concerns over whether the US government is laying the groundwork for what could become an interconnected and unified surveillance apparatus created by a company which has been in business with the government since 2008. According to the report, since Donald Trump took office Palantir has received over $113 million in government spending – which doesn’t include a $795 million contract from the Department of Defense (DoD) awarded last week. According to the Times report (citing six alleged government officials and Palantir employees), the company is also in discussions with the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service (the latter of which contracted with Palantir during the Biden administration).

A Christian ex-employee of power generator company Generac filed a religious discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleging that the company forced him out for refusing to use a “transgender” colleague’s preferred name and pronouns. The Christian Post reported that Spencer Wimmer alleges he received a disciplinary action note warning him he could be terminated for not using the preferred terms despite his positive performance record and the lack of any such requirement in Generac’s policies. A human resources representative reportedly told him his religious objections “did not make any sense,” and that transgender names and pronouns should be considered as innocuous as nicknames. Wimmer says he resigned on March 31, but attempted to rescind his resignation on April 2 upon learning he had other workplace protections for his religious freedom he could have invoked but was denied the ability to come back. He also says personal effects of his were returned “defaced and badly damaged,” including a Bible.
