What if Joe Biden wins the election? For this there will be no mention of the absolute corruption he seems embroiled in, no mention that he wants to raise taxes to levels that would leave most of us destitute nor even any talk about his ridiculous plan to shut the entire nation down because of covid-19. Those are all important issues with their own set of problems but today is about his new green new deal and specifically the plan to eliminate all fossil fuel industries. If he is able to do what he plans, can one imagine the catastrophic damage this would do the lives of all Americans.
The immediate effect would be the loss of jobs for millions of Americans. Presently, 1.2 million people are directly involved in the extraction and refining of fossil fuels who would be out of a job. People who mine coal, drill wells, refine oil into its components for consumption. Not include are the people who are directly involved in the distribution of these fossil fuel-based products such as tanker drivers, coal carriers, pipeline workers, etc. Next would be the plastics industry. More than 1.8 million people are employed in the plastics making industry which, if you don’t know, are made from fossil fuels. Next are the nearly a hundred thousand people employed in the manufacturing of tires. None of these include the distribution, warehousing, sales etc. needed to get the products from creation to consumption.
Consider plastics for a moment. Look around your house, your vehicle, your yard and try to think of all the items that are constructed totally or partially from plastic. Literally millions of everyday products from smart phones to soap are composed from fossil fuels. Want to give up your phone? The reason plastics are used is because of the low cost. How much would those items cost if manufactured using metals or wood? Next consider all the items that use fuels of some sort. Tractors, lawnmowers, barbeque grills, kerosene heaters, cars, trucks etc. would become useless junk if fossil fuels were eliminated. Some may say, “Well I have an all-electric house. I will be ok.” Where do you think most of the electricity comes from? Nearly 65 percent of the electricity in the United States is produced by plants using fossil fuels. Only six percent of electricity is produced by wind or solar means. So, no, electricity is out.
Even a casual look shows that the United States is leading the world in the reduction of carbon emissions. We are leading in the attempt to clean up waterways, and the ocean around this country. We are leading but the rest of the world refuses to follow. We all want to eliminate any damage to the environment by eliminating pollutants but not at the cost of sending the United States into a dark age that would make us vulnerable to the rest of the world. There is no way to transition to a carbon free world in fifteen years as Biden proposes. It will take years to create the means to power the world and maintain the lives we have all become accustom to. Believe it or not, energy cannot be created out of thin air.
Truth is a vote for Biden is a vote for the dark ages. To think that we can create energy sources, infrastructure for delivery and conversion of industries to that energy in the allotted time is a pipe dream. It will not be the fantasy world that Democrats indicate. Rather it would be a living nightmare of misery, hunger and death.
