Believing that Jesus exists is not enough. Jesus said that we must be 'born again'. So, what does that mean? It means that you ask Him to forgive your sins, and let Him know that you believe He died for the payment of your sins, and He rose from the dead and that you want a true relationship with Him and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour.
And then at that moment, He will send His Holy Spirit to live with you and guide you and bless you. The Holy Spirit is called the Helper for a reason - He helps you to change, He helps you to understand God's Word and live according to God's Word.
If you say to yourself that you have tried to change a million times and it doesn't work and that is just who you are.... that's ok. You are going to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and He will help you change what needs to be changed - He will give you guidance and strength to be successful in making those changes. You will never be alone ever again because God will reside in you. He will show you what true love really is - it's not like the worldly people kind of love that is fickle - but heavenly love that is never-ending and fills you with joy and peace.
