So frequently does Russia threaten the West with nuclear holocaust, for example, that one journalist said it's become Russia's "national sport." China's no different. This seems like an obvious statement, yet there are too many businesses, corporations, media personalities, professors, and politicians who believe that all we need to do to tame the dragon is to extend our hand of friendship, open a dialogue, trade with them, and build up their economy and living standards. All one has to do to ascertain China’s real character and capabilities is to remember what happened on Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989.
"In May of 1989, groups of students gathered on Beijing’s largest public square to protest for a redress of grievances suffered at communist hands. A large statue mirroring the Statue of Liberty and called the “Goddess of Democracy” was erected. Thousands participated in an entirely peaceful event right under the nose of the Chinese Communist Party. The Autonomous Federation of Students declared a hunger strike over their frustration that the CCP wouldn’t enter into a dialogue with them and over the fact that the dictator, Deng Xiaoping, had publicly called the peaceful protest a “chaotic disturbance.” Part of the AFS’s hunger strike announcement follows:
"“In this bright, sunny month of [May 1989] we have begun a hunger strike. During the glorious days of our youth, we have no choice but to abandon the beauty of life. . . .
"“The nation is in crisis – beset by rampant inflation, illegal dealings by profiteering officials, abuses of power, corrupt bureaucrats, the flight of good people to other countries, and deterioration of law and order. Compatriots, fellow countrymen who cherish morality, please hear our voices!" . . . .
"Mass support began growing not only in Beijing, but throughout all of China. Ordinary people began leaving their jobs or putting up roadblocks to stop Chinese government or military personnel. One local Beijing gang even stopped their normal illicit activities to join in the demonstrations. There was a legitimate fear in China’s ruling circles that they would be overthrown as even members of the PLA began wavering in their support for the regime. Regardless of the CCP’s ostensibly iron grasp on power, a billion angered Chinese who refuse to work and who are willing to fight back simply won’t be stopped. To preempt this possibility, the Reds struck first in an attempt to cut the legs out from under the brewing revolution.
"In the early morning hours of June 4, specially-trained riot control units of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) stormed into Tiananmen Square and other focal points in Beijing. These hardened troops not only figuratively crushed the peaceful rebellion, but literally crushed hundreds of unarmed protesters under the treads of their armored vehicles. It was a gruesome scene as PLA savages opened fire on the crowd with machine guns. In a complex and thoroughly-planned operation, columns of tanks rolled into various parts of the city, steadily pushing the protesters away from the square. . ."

The KGB, when I was still connected with it, went to great lengths to transform an Egyptian-born Marxist, Mohammed Yasser Abdel Rahman Abdel Raouf Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini, nom de guerre Abu Ammar, into a Palestinian-born Yasser Arafat. It took the KGB—and my DIE—many years to endow Arafat with a credible Palestinian birth certificate and other identity documents, to build him a new past, and to train him at the KGB Balashikha special-operations training school east of Moscow. But as Andropov said, it was worth every minute. In 1994, the KGB-born-and-trained Arafat was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Yet in 2002 alone, there were a recorded 13,494 incidents of terrorism against Israelis, committed by Arafat’s PLO. More than six hundred civilians had lost their lives.
