A devastating Iranian missile strike in Beit Shemesh left nine people dead and dozens wounded as the projectile slammed into a synagogue complex and surrounding residential buildings. As rescue crews sifted through the rubble, they made a startling discovery. A fragment of the missile had pierced a Torah scroll inside the synagogue. Even more striking was the precise section of Scripture where the shrapnel had lodged—Parashat Zachor, a passage commanding Israel to remember the ancient enemy Amalek and the attack against the vulnerable during the Exodus.
The symbolic weight of the moment was difficult to ignore. Amid the destruction of homes and the loss of life, the fragment rested within a text that reads:
“𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘈𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘬 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘨𝘺𝘱𝘵, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭, 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥.
