I was at my cousin's house, and he was watching a show called "Storage Wars," in which people bid for the contents of abandoned storage units. Then they take the items to people who tell them what the item is "worth." But we never see anyone actually buying these items, for actual money. Then it occurred to me: the abandoned storage units are full of stuff that other people previously bought at storage auctions, and they couldn't sell the stuff!

When we do not correct children's incorrect pronunciation of English words, it has long-term negative consequences for the language. Kids pronounce "than" as "then," and now they use them interchangeably, and one further consequence is that people say "that" instead of "than." Another that is annoying me is that kids and lazy adults pronounce the word "our" the same as "are." Now I see people spelling "our" as "are."
