It is difficult to understand how mean-spirited people intentionally create disharmony for others. People hold onto the belief that a mean-spirited person will eventually get a taste of his or her own medicine; thinking things like, ‘what goes around comes around.’ However when viewed through the lens of compassion, we come to understand that when we project thoughts and feelings of retaliation; it generates distressing energy. It is true that we are impacted by external experiences; therefore, it is critical for our well being that we extra vigilant with our interpretation of external events. We must always remember that our thoughts and emotions are active in guiding our journey in life. It takes practice, but it is worth our well being that we focus on self-love and consciously choose to pray that mean-spirited individuals receive the healing they require. In reality, the mean-spirited individual is incapable of this action because at this point in their lives they are choosing to create pain for others. In compassion, we can understand that mean-spirited individuals refuse to address their healing issues because they believe that hurting others is solution helping them to distract from the fact that they are wounded. Our prayerful action does not mean that we allow people to walk all over us; rather, we must use our personal boundaries as we disengage from the negative energy of others; and as we walk away prayerfully; we powerfully honor our spirit. We understand that the energy that prayer generates is powerful; and just as we pray for those we love; we choose to pray for mean-spirited individuals; and in doing so, we honor others’ spirits. In essence our prayers projects love and positive energy flows both around us and inside of us.
In courageous introspection, we have come to understand that there was a point in our life that we too struggled; and during that time we intentionally or unintentionally caused distress to others. It was at that time; someone loving prayed for our healing. When we combined the power of prayer and our search for a healing, we were led to the path of seeking balance. As we travel further on our healing journey, the more we become naturally inclined to project positive energy; even for those who seemingly do not deserve it; and if ‘what goes around comes around’, it is in prayer that we honoring others’ spirit. It is in prayer that we honor our own. This is for all my Relations both white and Native American Indian. For I live in both ways of life.
