WARNING!
There is a new evil in town and its called "Ethical Hackers"
It begins with a blue screen with the words in white that read - "Updating your filles do not shut down"
I allowed that until I found a scammer ordering playstation gift cards on my Amazon account. I immediately contacted Amazon and the matter was supposedly taken care of but continued every day following for four days.
On the fifth day I received, in my g-mail, the following message:
"Your email has been hacked and gift cards sent to charity." And it advised me to go to check "spam" In the spam folder I found a letter telling me why they are doing this and named the charity they sent the gift cards to (red cross and unicef - wanna bet?). The letter said this "PEOPLE WHO TAKE SECURITY TOO LENIENTLY LEAVE THEMSELVES OPEN TO ALL TYPES OF HACKER GROUPS. PLEASE DON'T BE ANGRY AT US, BE ANGRY AT YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING ON TOP OF YOUR GAME" (sounds alphabetical to me).
As it turns out I acted fast enough to alert Amazon and there have been no charges to my bank account - so far Amazon is out $200.
Since then I have had to clean out my password manager, changed passwords everywhere and must be verified before getting anywhere. I have been scammed over and over since 2018 but this one really takes the cake. Be careful. I now turn my computer off every time I leave it in order to get at least 10 minutes time on it before that blue window returns.
PS - if you put Ethical Hacker Group Russia in your browser, you will find pages of information about this group - and yeah, they are NOT from Russia but love to use that as a cover. They invite others to join their group to learn how to hack for their cause. In my opinion this is an alphabet group looking to punish who ever they can.
